The Edina Fire Department will soon run a new extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) with the help of the University of Minnesota, the Sun Current reports.
The truck includes an ECMO machine to temporarily mimics the heart and lungs, a c-arm fluoroscopy imaging scanner, interior cameras that broadcasts the patient on a television screen inside the truck. A cardiologist can be on call to provide help through virtual reality.
Two or three people will staff the truck, in addition to two Edina firefighter-paramedics.
