A broken door on an old ambulance is being blamed after a body came tumbling out while the ambulance was making a turn, according to an official and video taken of the incident.
The incident took place on April 23 as the ambulance was leaving a COVID-19 hospital, according to the Indian Express.
“The ambulance was old and was donated by an NGO and the door broke, leading to the situation,” Vidisha Medical College Dean Sunil Nandeshwar told the publication.
The ambulance was transporting bodies to the crematorium. Hospital officials were refusing to hand over the bodies of the deceased to the families, per COVID-19 protocols in the country, according to the report.
Nandeshwar said families are allowed inside the hospital with PPE kits and N95 masks for a short time to say goodbye to loved ones.
